Wordpress Theme Database

For today’s budding webmaster, there are an abundance of theme wielding companies. Everybody likes to have a great theme for their blog, but choosing the right one can be tough. With so many different companies out there, vying for your business, you certainly want to make sure your getting the right one. Especially with the more expensive designs.

So arrives the Wordpress Theme Database. A website which lists all the premium (and maybe free) theme providers, and then aggregates their themes into one big database. The coding is certainly over my head, but for an adept coder, pulling preview images and links for live demos etc. would not be a mammoth task. There might be an aspect of manual editing involved but for the most part it would be a very automated process.

Monetizing the site would then be easy because more often than not these theme companies run affiliate programs. Simply join each of these, and set up each link with your affiliate code. Then you just sit tight and wait for your cheques at the end of the month!

As I write this i’m having a quick brainstorming and research session to find an ideal name for the site. So far The Wordpress Theme Database seems a great candidate. It’s a self explanatory title and would tie in well with the available domain names:

WPTDB.com
WordpressThemeDB
WordpressThemeDatabase

(Unfortunately it seems it is a bad idea to use the word ‘wordpress’ in domain names for legal reasons (thanks Mubashar). Try substituting it with WP wherever you are stuck!)

Automattic has been pretty firm about people not using Wordpress in domains names, so you might want to avoid those, or expect legal trouble :) Otherwise great idea.
