Let me first take this opportunity to wish everybody a happy and prosperous 2010. As we move into this new year I hope each and every one of you has great aspirations for online success this year, and I hope that I can help you on your way. For my first post of the new year I will help you to create your own domain names (and I also list a few interesting available domain names that I spotted using the tools).

While all my available domain names are hand generated, there are some great tools to computer generate domains. Here are 4 great domain generators to help you create amazing domain names on your own (in no particular order):

  • Make Words
This tool is a balance of both random generation and keywords. You can find completely random names like exampli.com, defauth.com and polymoly.com or you can put in keywords, prefixes and suffixes to find a name tailored to your niche.
  • Bust A Name
If you have some keywords you want to start with, this is the tool for you. It’s a little more complex than the others but you can find some much more targetted names.
  • Dot-o-mator
Dot-o-mator takes 2 lists of words and then combines them to create great (and available) domain names like brightbeetle.com and battlemate.com.
  • Domain Typer
Primarily an AJAX domain availability tool, it lists some great random web 2.0 domains in the sidebar such as asoble.com, tiongo.com and vitary.com.

If you find any names that you don’t want to use, how about sharing them below in the comments to help out other readers.

Happy new years to you as well man, what’s the biggest thing you want to accomplish this year?

I have to say that coming up with domain names isn’t the easiest thing to do anymore. All of my domain names (blogussion, asnio) were things I thought up myself, but they took time. I doubt you just instantly thought up “cogroll,” it probably took some time. But I have never used any tools like the ones you mentioned above, I’m actually curious to see what comes up. :D

Thanks Alex. I think my main goal this year is to continue to build Cogroll. It’s a slow process but there is already a good traffic base and highly recognised commenters like yourself is always great! How about you?

I use these tools a lot but I’m certainly more of a fan of a good brainstorming session. Cogroll was the result of several days of thinking! One of the follow up articles to this will be an introduction to my thought processes when thinking of domain names.

Hey James! These are some great tools. It’s becoming increasingly challenging to find domain names and I’ll definitely refer back to this article next time I need one.

And thanks for including me in your Follow Friday! I like your site.

Thanks for stopping by Nick. I hope you remember to return when you next need a domain. I don’t normally just share tools, I post many of my own available name ideas.

Thanks for these links! I absolutely love things like this, as I often get a mental block when I’m trying to come up with ‘brandable’ domain names and names for sites.

No problem Ruth. Finding domain names always challenges as well. I spend plenty of time doing it though so I end up with loads spare to post here!
