First Ever Cogroll Contest: Ouwch.com Giveaway
This contest has now finished. I will select finalists within the next two days and put the winner to public vote. Keep your eyes open.
_____________
Following on from the successful launch of the new design, I’m excited to announce the first Cogroll Contest! Up for grabs is the brilliantly unique domain name, ouwch.com, pre-registered for one year at Namecheap. The rules are simple, whoever comes up with the best idea for the domain name, will win it and be able to put their ideas into action. More details after the jump.
The Aim
Quite simply: Concoct a website idea for the domain name ouwch.com
The Rules
- The competition closes in exactly 7 days. No entries will be accepted after Monday 14th December 18:00 GMT (13:00 EST).
- The number of ideas per entrant is unlimited (within reason).
- The winner must have a well presented website proposal with a unique and interesting idea, that they are able to implement (important!).
- The winner will be announced via Newsletter so be sure to join the newsletter mailing list.
- Duplicate ideas are likely to appear. It will be very difficult to monitor idea plagiarism, so just try and put your own unique spin on each idea. (Those first to post will have an advantage in my mind).
The Prize
The winner will receive:
- Domain name ouwch.com, registered for one year from today’s date at Namecheap.
- Unique vector branding package (seen above and on ouwch.com).
Web hosting and domain renewal is not included in the prize and must be supplied by the winner.
Additional Comments
The winner must have an account at Namecheap.com - these are free to create, and the domain name is free to transfer. No cost involved!
Although it’s almost impossible to enforce, I would like to see that the domain name does go into use with the proposed idea. Any contest winners found to be abusing the domain name, or simply selling it for profit, will be barred from future contests.
If you have any additional queries just send me an email through the contact form. As this is the first contest I’m certain we will encounter a few teething problems, but I will endeavour to resolve them all within the fastest time possible.
Good luck to everyone! Get your thinking caps on!

I’m probably going to go for a sort of fail blog-style thing with my suggestion
@Ben: You mean fail designs?
@keith http://failblog.org
hello,
I have a great idea. I would love to turn the site into, a place called ouch designs. Designing all kinds of crazy online ouch’s and celebrity messups. Like when barack obama talked about kanye west.
Thanks,
bozonessinc
It’d make a great ‘RateMyScar’ website. Perhaps not the most tasteful but certainly an interesting one and simple to set up. Love the logo James, It would be nice if that we’re to be used on the final site.
Money fails. With the current economy doing so poorly due to money management, I would show users what their mistake was - and possibly solutions on how it cam be corrected.
For example explain budget deficits, how they got there, and how to correct the problem. (Prime example California’s budget LOL).
id use it as a youve been framed type video site showing the ouwch type vids that make you wince
Love this idea for a competition. I have seen pretty much every single type of competition on blogs around the world but never anybody giving away a domain name and you have now got my head racing with lots of different ideas for a similar giveaway. For what it is worth I love the design here although only new stopping by so didn’t see the old one to compare it to!
Awesome contest idea!
I would turn it into a site displaying the worst design errors on the web.
Cheers,
James
Automatically reminds me of the phrase ouch. Would look good as a site that features all the painful pictures from all around the globe.
A combined website of all the ouch moments of celebs n also the people around the world..either containing the videos or news or a combination of both
I think it would be a great site for bad situations, embarrassing situations. Users could upload their own content, be it in text, picture or video, and other users could vote on a ten point scale to what they think is ouwch. Could even give away some prizes for different categories to get the site rolling…
Some great ideas so far guys. Remember, feel free to post more than one idea if you are feeling particularly creative!
Seems everyone is posting ideas for a fail-blog style site, so I’m going to go for something different.
My idea is a site that aggregates specifically BAD project reviews, gives a brief run down on why that project is bad, and proposes better alternatives to the product, rated upon by viewers and in comparison to better reviews. There would also be a mobile version for users to be able to use in-store, if they see a product that might tempt them into an impulse buy but are still unsure if maybe there is a better alternative for the money. The main idea is to find better products based on the bad points of the reviews and user opinions, instead of just basing the buying decision on a few good reviews or ratings.
Oops. I meant “product” instead of “project.” I should probably look over my posts next time.
Another idea.
Could turn it into a site showing the biggest government stuff ups of all time.
The Domain Name is Quiet easy to remember and its quiet catchy and unique…
I have Started blogging just before 2-3 months and a domain name that too free it is just a great idea to brand the business
And as far as the idea is concerned i will blog about everything which i like and think it can be interesting How ??? when People Will see the stuff which i would write on the blog they will Say “Ouch what is he writing on Oucwh”
Sounds Good naa what do You Say About this
And Ya if I win You Need To Help Me out to Setup The Blog
Give it to http://www.ouchuk.org/html/
I would ideally like to win it and then sell it on to fund my xbox live account for a month while i’m back for uni and hopefully get a tasty snack and a pint.
@garymardell Heh.. that would be lovely, but not a very a good business move!
@everyone Thanks for all your entries. Don’t forget to join the mailing list to be notified of the winner. I think I will put the decision of the winner up to a public vote?
Public vote seems fair, but I wonder how many entrants have the contacts to influence the voting to benefit their own entries.
That’s an interesting point. I guess it’s possible people could sway the vote. I’ll have to think.
