Form Design for Designers

It’s long been a fact that when designers and developers work with clients, the best results come when the client is willing and able to provide the most information about their project. Creative Republic offers a great selection of free and paid document templates, but it concerns me that a web-based project questionnaire is still operated through offline forms. It appears that even with the wide variety of form design tools available, there is still nothing perfectly suited to the web design and development industry.

The World Record Domain

This domain was registered on the day of posting. If the person who registered it could make a comment letting us know your intentions and keep us updated that would be great. This is the main reason I wanted to post available domains.

It’s been a little while since my last available domain post so I thought it was time for another, even though the other available domain I posted is still, in fact, available.

Used License Marketplace

Without doubt the most efficient way of starting a new venture on the web is using a ready-made script. There is a huge variety available these days covering almost every niche you can think of and chances are that there is a script that can closely match what you need. This helps to reduce to startup costs and almost guarantees you won’t have any teething problems like you might with a bespoke script.

Paid scripts work by issuing licenses with a purchase. These licenses can last anywhere between 3 months to a lifetime (or so they claim). The question what happens to these licenses when the website outgrows the script or simply ceases operation?

Well, with many scripts, especially vBulletin, some used licenses end up for sale on forums and auction sites. It is quite common to see sales threads offering licenses and where the terms allow it, it is perfectly legal, not to mention a great way to get some money back from your initial investment.

Re-Design Observer

So what, the post title might be a play on words of one my favourite blogs, but still, it’s a fundamental part of the web cycle; websites get redesigned. Some more often than others, some better than others, but there always will be redesigns. From a designers perspective seeing these redesigns can be as useful, if not more so than the abundance of CSS galleries and design inspiration websites. Successful redesigns of large and well followed websites are likely to offer a great insight as to current and future design trends.

It is an unfortunate fact then that these redesigns are poorly promoted and information about them is scattered across the web.

How about this: a CSS gallery style website detailing all the latest redesigns. This has enormous potential and would be of interest to almost every designer I know, if not a wider audience.

What’s the rest?..

How Much Money Does Sitepoint Make?

With the volume of listings on the Sitepoint Marketplace it stands to reason that a massive amount of money moves through it’s members every day. Something that’s always intrigued me is just how large that amount was, so I decided to try and devise a tool to monitor the marketplace.

Where are you going with this..

What Could You Do With $350?

Site back up.

I encountered a great blog post today by Allan over at Register Better which reveals several coupons that are available for Facebook advertising. All in all there is $350 worth of free Facebook advertising credit available. I’m sure I don’t need to tell any of you, but this is as close as you will get to free money.

The question is how much can you convert from $350 of free, not to mention highly targetted advertising? Based on the affiliate marketing industry a successful campaign should allow you to almost double your $350 of credit into $700 of cold hard cash. So here’s an idea, head on over to your favourite affiliate network and grab some links, create a nice landing page and make this brilliant opportunity work for you.

The Perfect Domain for a Webmaster Marketplace

It’s inevitably going to be a week of firsts. Inkeeping with this I give you the first ‘Available Domain Name’ post. As a note, these will be posts about available domain names and some ideas to sit alongside them.

The Tool That Every Domainer Has Been Waiting For

Sometimes ideas aren’t new at all, they can be modern adaptations of old ideas, imports of ideas from other locales or just mergers of several successful ideas.

Domain names are key to the web industry. Without them we would be hopelessly lost in a matrix of numbers. With so many registrars to choose from it’s hard to know where to go. As a new domain registrar what you need is a hook.

Keeping Top Clients

It’s with great pleasure I give you the very first idea to be posted, a little app for designers and developers.

As a designer, the most fluctuating aspect of the job is the clientele. From one client to another the job can go from severely frustrating to incredibly easy and enjoyable. After working with one too many tedious clients it came to me that a simple app to keep track of your favourite clients (the ones who are easy to work with, pleasant to talk to and pay up on time) could make the job a lot easier. Let’s call it a mailing list. With all their contacts organised you would be able to stay in regular contact with them, offering them exclusive offers and special rewards in order to get their continual custom. Working with the same pleasant clients regularly surely beats working with new and frustrating clients. As the age old cliche goes ‘keeping a client is a lot easier than finding a new one’.

The First Post

For some time now I have been contemplating the idea of starting a blog to share my ideas for websites, applications and other such topics. Today marks it’s opening.

What the blog will try to offer is a valuable resource for inspiration and ingenuity in internet business, marketing and development. As ideas are presented the aim will be to go into as much detail as possible, describing visions for even the most intricate of aspects. These intricacies will hopefully be of as much inspiration as the ideas in their purest form.

All ideas posted are free for anyone to use as they wish. By providing ideas it’s hoped that some aspects will be taken and then adapted and moulded to fit any project, while some ideas may even be acted upon as a whole.

With so many creative people out there it’s likely that most or all of what is posted has been thought of and acted upon before but the plan is to create an inspirational resource rather than a turnkey idea shop.  With that in mind please be sure to share all your ideas and thoughts through the comments feature of the blog.

Thankyou for taking the time to read the obligatory introduction. Don’t forget to sign up to the RSS feed so you don’t miss out on any new ideas. Don’t miss the twitter feed either.
