4 Websites That You Should Start Today
If you’ve been waiting for ideas to start a new website, then wait no more. Getting ahead of the trend is absolutely key for niche content websites. Once a niche becomes saturated, if you are not already established it becomes almost impossible to make an impact.
Tip: If you are not based in America, a good idea to establish yourself in a busy niche is to target just your country. iPhone was a saturated niche, but by targetting ‘iPhone Australia’ I was able to generate much more traffic than I would have for a global iPhone site.
With that in mind, here are 4 technologies that are tipped to be big in 2010, and therefore present ideal opportunities as the topics of new websites, blogs and forums:
Nexus One
Released very recently, Google’s phone is sure to go global. It may not be an iPhone killer but there will be a big enough audience to get solid traffic to a blog or forum.
Apple Tablet
Apple’s next big release is rumoured (confirmed?) to be a tablet Mac. This announcement is expected on the 27th January so make sure you are available for the live broadcast so you can register those premium domains!
Home 3D
With the huge success of Avatar, 3D is now being given it’s share of attention. Plenty of 3D home entertainment systems were on show at CES and this is hotly tipped to be the next big thing.
eReaders
Amazon (due to Kindle) saw their digital books outsell physical books over Christmas. Most predict this will be the case over the course of 2010, and eReaders will become commonplace.

Very good little list, James.
To be honest, I think anything which is getting a lot of media attention would be a good thing to start a site on.
Another effective way of getting good traffic is to create a site for each individual news story. Take the UK at the moment for example… the whole country is being screwed over by snow, and it’s one of the top stories on the news every day. If you can then rank highly in SEs for a snow/weather related keyword, you’ll get a lot of hits and revenue until the news passes, then it’ll die down.
It really works tho… I used to co-own a site when Euro 08 (football/soccer) was on with match reports. We ranked on the first page for most of the matches, which got us some crazy traffic.
That said, my latest project (up this month hopefully) won’t be any thing to do with the news
lol
Great ideas! I have already started on one of those niches, and you’re right about targeting your local country. I am in the UK so hoping to get quite a lot of the UK searchers.
@Simon It’s certainly a pretty effective formula - take what the people want and put it in a website!
@Ruth Good luck with the site Ruth. I found a lot of traffic came from search engines by targetting country keywords such as ‘iPhone Australia’ and ‘Apple Australia’.
Definitely targeting a certain country for a certain niche is a very good idea.
